KSI Research
Purpose
The purpose of KSI Research Inc. is to conduct research and provide educational services.
Objectives
KSI Research Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit tax exempt organization dedicated to research and education.
The objectives of KSI Research are to promote knowledge sharing and advance the state-of-the-art of computer sciences and information technologies research, especially in trans-cultural computing. Although we live in a global society with supposedly world-wide instantaneous sharing of information, there are still too many deadly conflicts and devastating wars in the world, partly due to the misunderstanding and mistrust among people in different cultures. Trans-cultural computing aims at the integration of multimedia information processing, speech understanding, image understanding, machine translation, artificial intelligence, ontological data processing, computer engineering, software engineering and knowledge engineering to minimize such misunderstanding and mistrust. Similar to the idea of doctors-without-boarders KSI Research Inc. endeavors to promote the idea of computing-without-borders: no matter where a person or a group of people is located and how obscure is his/her/their language and culture, through trans-cultural computing this person or this group of people can reach out to another person or group of people in a different geographical location with a different language and culture to achieve understanding and trust. This is undoubtedly a lofty idea. In practice KSI Research Inc. will organize conferences and workshops to promote this idea of computing-without-borders through trans-cultural computing.

Research Projects at KSI Research
Research at KSI Research is centered around software
engineering and knowledge engineering for the development of
sentient information systems,
which are systems aware of the environment through the
employment of a diversified collection of sensors.
Applications include health care, online education, and EASE (environment aware software engineering).
An example is the TDR System for Chi.
